Located on a working farm and apple orchard, this old barn was called upon to have a new life as the studio for the resident artist. Connecting the space to the surrounding river, waterfall and grounds was the priority. Approach the entry with a playful roof that mimics the main roofs while exposing the elegant bones of the timber framing. Step inside the working studio to see the wear of the original wide board floors, the clean vertical pine ship lap boards on the walls, the mirror of the exterior, and the clean white ceilings helping to light the lofty working space. Popping the top of this barn, we created a loft for smaller more personal projects, and a quiet office space. Custom, hand-built windows following the roof lines flank the sides of the loft and give it a tree house feel above the river. The well-lit space is clean and simple to the eye. allowing the artist and artwork to feel at home.
