Sitting on a peninsula on a quiet lake, this summer retreat was conceptualized as a 2 story pavilion on the waters edge. On the main level of living views of the water and the vegetation from every direction allow natural light to pour into to the tall space. The second floor is an open loft that runs along 2 edges of the pavilion. Walking up the stairs keeps your eyes focused first on the water, and then on the sky and long views as you look across the floor below and the lake outside. The metal roof on the outside wraps down the leaning eastern wall expressing the opening to the water and sky to the west, while on the inside the floor, eastern wall and ceiling are all wrapped in maple hardwood to express the same opening to the desirable views. Wrap around decks, sculpted landscapes and the walls of the home all work to create the spaces and shape the views for the lake side retreat.
